Dr. Alemu Kerie Tesfaw is an Ophthalmologist and Vitreous and Retina Specialist, Medical director of Roha Specialized Eye Clinic.

Biography

A graduate of Addis Ababa University with Specialty in Ophthalmology in 2010. Studied Medicine and graduated with a Doctorate degree in Medicine from the former Gondar College of medical sciences in 2000. He pursued subspecialty training- a rotational program at Moran eye Centre, University of Utah, USA, and Tilganga institute of ophthalmology, Nepal, and completed his fellowship in Vitreo-retinal surgery in 2015.
Dr. Alemu had been coordinator and ophthalmic surgeon in the cataract intervention part of a research project on the cost-effectiveness of cataract surgery in North Wollo conducted by the Himalayan cataract project (HCP) in 2012.
Organized and conducted several cataract outreaches in collaboration with HCP, Rotary club of Poland in 2012, and 2013.
Was a medical director of WGGA eye Centre, and practiced in comprehensive ophthalmology and medical and surgical management of vitreous and retina diseases since 2015.
Member of the ophthalmological society of Ethiopia, American Academy of ophthalmology, and European society of retina specialists
Has attended numerous international scientific conferences ranging from American academy of ophthalmology annual meetings, in Chicago (2012,2016), New Orleans (2013) and Cophy (World congress on controversies in Ophthalmology) in Warsaw Poland (2016) to attending several preceptorship programs in Switzerland (2017), Singapore (2016), Egypt (2018). And Global Retina Network Program in Vienna, Austria (2018) and Euretina congress in Paris (2019).

Special interest

Dr. Alemu Kerie has a special interest in the management of diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, age-related macular degeneration, retina vein occlusions, and surgeries of retinal detachments and cataract.
